The Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition have been included among the best full-size SUVs available. They both offer three rows of seating, great performance, and plenty of space. When deciding on an Expedition or Tahoe, it's important that you make the right choice for your family. In this guide, our team in Plano will compare the 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe against the Ford Expedition to help you choose which one to buy.
What's New for the 2026 Model Year?
Both the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe received styling updates in 2025. There aren't any major changes to either model for 2026.
Performance and Powertrain
The 2026 Tahoe has three engine options, and each one connects to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The standard 5.3-liter V-8 engine outputs 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. You can also choose a 6.2-liter V-8 that generates 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Your final option is a 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine with 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. While the EPA hasn't released efficiency tests for 2026 models yet, the 2025 versions of the 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter engines were rated up to 17 mpg combined, and the diesel engine achieved 24 mpg combined.
With the Expedition, you get two engine choices that link to a 10-speed automatic transmission. A 3.5-liter V-6 with 400 hp comes standard. There's also a more powerful version of the same engine that can produce up to 440 hp. Last year's standard and high-output engines were rated to get up to 19 mpg combined.
Both of these SUVs also have impressive towing numbers. The new Tahoe has a maximum towing capacity of 8,400 pounds, and the Expedition can pull up to 9,600 pounds.
Interior Space and Tech
In the Tahoe, you'll get 44.5 inches of legroom in the front. The back rows are also spacious, providing 42 inches and 34.9 inches of legroom in the second and third rows, respectively. The Expedition offers a comparable amount of legroom. You'll get 43.9 inches in the first row, 41.1 inches in the second row, and 36.5 inches in the back.
When it comes to cargo space, the Tahoe beats the Expedition. Inside the Tahoe, there is 25.5 cubic feet of room behind the third row, 72.5 cubic feet with the third row folded, and a total of 122.7 cubic feet with all seats down. With the Expedition, you get 21.6 cubic feet, 60.8 cubic feet, and 108.5 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the third row, second row, and first row, respectively.
Both of these SUVs are also equipped with the latest tech. In the Tahoe, there's a standard 17-inch infotainment screen and an 11-inch digital gauge display. The Expedition features a 24-inch driver dashboard display and a smaller 13.2-inch central infotainment screen.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The 2026 Tahoe comes with more standard safety features than the Ford Expedition. In the Tahoe, you'll get lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and lane departure warning. The Expedition comes with forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, but you'll need to upgrade to get lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist.
Both SUVs offer hands-free driving through Super Cruise on the Chevy and BlueCruise on the Ford. These systems let you take your hands off the wheel on compatible highways. It's a great feature to have if your family often takes long road trips.
Pricing
Official pricing isn't available yet for the 2026 Ford Expedition, but we do have an idea of what to expect. Car and Driver estimates that the 2026 Expedition will be priced between $64,995 and $86,655, from the entry-level to its highest trim.
The 2026 Tahoe officially starts at $60,400. The lineup features five additional trims, with pricing topping out at $80,400.
Expedition vs. Tahoe: Which One Is for You?
The 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe is a great choice if your family is looking for a comfortable full-size SUV with plenty of storage space. It's also expected to cost less than the 2026 Expedition, making it a great value. While the Expedition has slightly better towing capabilities, the Tahoe could also manage your heavy trailer. Both SUVs come equipped with the latest tech, but the Tahoe offers more standard driver-assistance features.
