blue 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV
Chevrolet is bringing the Bolt back, and this time it's landing with a new battery chemistry, a faster charging port, and a trim level the nameplate has never offered before. Plano and Collin County drivers have been asking when the 2027 Chevy Bolt will show up, and GM has already started shipping units to dealers, so we finally have real answers instead of guesswork.

We put together this preview to walk through what's confirmed about range, charging, and technology, and to explain why Huffines Chevrolet Plano expects to be a good resource once the vehicle reaches North Texas. If you want to see what's already on our lot while you wait, you can browse our current electric and hybrid inventory today.

The 2027 Chevy Bolt EV Is Coming Back to Plano

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV brings back one of Chevrolet's most affordable electric vehicles, and GM has confirmed it's now shipping to dealers from the Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas. That plant is scheduled to shift over to building a gas-powered Buick before long, which gives this generation a production run of roughly 18 months. Chevrolet clearly wants this version in driveways fast rather than treating it as a long-term flagship.

The pricing is what makes the rest of it interesting. The Bolt LT starts at $28,995 including destination, which makes it the lowest-priced EV on sale in the United States, and Chevrolet claims it delivers more range than any EV under $30,000. The RS adds $4,000 at $32,995, and a fully loaded RS with the Technology Package, Super Cruise, and a sunroof tops out at $38,990. GM redesigned the powertrain and battery specifically to fix the prior generation's biggest limitations while holding that price point.

EPA-Estimated 262-Mile Range for Everyday Commuting

The headline number is a 262-mile EPA-estimated range, roughly matching the outgoing Bolt EV and beating the larger Bolt EUV's 247. Range was never the old Bolt's weakness, though. Charging speed was, and that's where this generation actually changes the math.

The average American drives about 42 miles a day, so a full charge on the 2027 Bolt comfortably covers a week's worth of typical driving without a single stop at a charger. For Plano commuters running the Dallas North Tollway or grinding through 121 traffic twice a day, that kind of buffer takes a lot of the guesswork out of EV ownership.

Under the hood, the 2027 Bolt runs on a 65-kWh LFP battery paired with an electric motor producing 210 horsepower and 169 lb-ft of torque, sent to the front wheels through a single-speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet also reports the 0-60 mph time has improved from 7.0 seconds to 6.8 seconds, so the extra range hasn't cost the car any of its everyday responsiveness.

Fast Charging Made Simple With Native NACS Port

One of the more practical upgrades in this generation is the switch to a native NACS port, the first time Chevrolet has made this the standard connector on the Bolt. For Texas drivers, that single change opens up access to the Tesla Supercharger network and the wider public charging network, without needing a separate adapter for most stops.

150 kW+ DC Fast Charging: 10% to 80% in About 25 Minutes

The prior-generation Bolt topped out at 55 kW on DC fast chargers, which made road trips a slow process. The 2027 model jumps to 150 kW DC fast charging, nearly triple the old ceiling, and Chevrolet's own stated estimate puts a 10%-to-80% charge at roughly 25 minutes under the right conditions. Anyone planning a longer trip out of the DFW area will notice that difference immediately.

Charging Options Around Plano and North Texas

Local charging access is where the NACS switch really pays off for Plano owners. There's a Tesla Supercharger location right here in Plano at 7161 Bishop Road, with 12 stalls offering up to 72 kW and 24/7 access, and the new Bolt can plug in there without an adapter. Electrify America also operates charging locations across Texas within about an hour of Plano, giving owners another fast-charging option for longer trips around North Texas.

For day-to-day charging, most owners won't rely on public stations at all. Roughly 80% of EV drivers charge at home, and the 2027 Bolt supports Level 2 AC charging at up to 11.5 kW, adding about 40 miles of range per hour on a 240-volt circuit and filling the battery overnight. A standard 120-volt outlet adds about 4 miles per hour, enough for a short commute. Every Bolt includes a Dual Level Charge Cord, so you're not buying a separate unit to start charging. One thing specific to this battery: because it uses LFP chemistry, Chevrolet recommends charging to 100% regularly rather than stopping at the 80% ceiling advised for most EVs.

Plano homeowners considering a 240V Level 2 setup in their garage should expect that kind of home charging to cover the bulk of their needs, with public fast charging reserved for trips. The Bolt also supports vehicle-to-home (V2H) charging through GM's Energy Home System, a useful backup during power outages.

Modern Technology That Elevates the Driving Experience

The redesigned cabin brings a more open console design, passenger-side dash storage, and multiple USB-C ports, all aimed at making the Bolt feel less like a budget EV and more like a genuinely modern vehicle.

11.3-Inch Infotainment Touchscreen With Google Built-In

The centerpiece of the dashboard is an 11.3-inch touchscreen running Google Built-In, paired with an 11-inch driver information center. The system includes in-vehicle Gemini AI voice recognition for hands-free requests, though it's worth noting that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto aren't available on this system, a deliberate design choice from Chevrolet rather than an oversight. Standard LT equipment also includes a Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite radio, four USB ports, Bluetooth, automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, and remote start, and there's an available wireless charging pad for those who want it.

Chevrolet also redesigned the regenerative braking system for this generation. The old paddle is gone, replaced by three selectable settings, Off, Normal, and High, which support one-pedal driving.

Available Super Cruise Hands-Free Driving

Super Cruise is available on the 2027 Bolt across both trims, bringing hands-free driving capability to a vehicle in this price range for the first time. Chevrolet says this is the most affordable vehicle in America to offer hands-free driving. On the safety side, the 2027 Bolt comes with more than 20 standard driver-assistance features, including Intersection Collision Mitigation, Rear Automatic Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking.

Introducing the Sporty New RS Trim

For the first time, the Bolt gets an RS trim, and it's a genuine departure from the standard look. The RS brings gloss-black exterior details and a unique grille, along with black wheels and gloss black roof rails, giving it a more street-inspired stance than the LT. Inside, RS models add heated and ventilated front seats and an 8-way power driver's seat, plus a heated steering wheel and multicolor interior lighting.

Mechanically, the RS is identical to the LT: both share the 65-kWh LFP battery, the 210 hp/169 lb-ft motor, FWD, and the 262-mile EPA-estimated range. It really comes down to styling and comfort features rather than performance. For a broader look at how Chevrolet structures its trim lineups, our guide on Chevrolet trim levels and packages is a useful resource.

Notable Tech/Trim Features Cloth upholstery, 6-way manual seats, 11.3-inch touchscreen Gloss-black exterior, heated/ventilated seats, 8-way power seat, heated steering wheel

Both trims share the same 65-kWh LFP battery and powertrain, FWD, 210 hp/169 lb-ft, 262-mile EPA-estimated range, and 150 kW+ DC fast charging (LFP), so what actually separates them comes down to trim-specific features rather than performance.

Why the 2027 Bolt EV Is Perfect for Plano-Area Drivers

Put the pieces together and the 2027 Bolt looks like a practical fit for how people actually live in Plano. The 262-mile range covers daily commuting on 121 or the tollway with plenty left over, the NACS port opens up the Plano Supercharger and the wider network for longer trips, and Super Cruise takes some of the fatigue out of longer North Texas drives.
